Help On Categories

Categories are an important wiki idea as they group together similar pages, which allows information be found and sorted more easily. Most pages in the Atlas are tagged as models, which are then subdivided by type, although there are also tags for other forms of pages such as summary pages (CategorySummary) and templates (CategoryTemplate).

A list of currently available categories can be found at CategoryCategory. To tag a page, either select the category whilst editing existing pages (below the "Comment" box there is a drop-down menu of "Add to") or there is a "Categories" section in the AtlasModelTemplate for new pages. A page can be tagged with multiple categories, for example Solow_Growth_Model is tagged with CategoryModel, CategoryMacro and CategoryGrowth.

As with page creation, you can create your own category by adding a link on another page e.g. CategoryNew or by visiting the page e.g. http://atlas.openeconomics.net/CategoryNew and then selecting the CategoryTemplate from the menu. If you want to get a list of all pages in that particular category, either click the title of the category or insert a suitable macro which lists the pages:

  • [[FullSearch(CategorySamples)]] lists all pages in the category CategorySamples

  • [[FullSearch(r:CategoryRecipes\b -r:CategoryCake\b)]] lists every recipe if it is not about a cake :-)

  • See HelpOnSearching for further information about the syntax.

Normally, categories have to named like CategorySomething. If you want to allow other patterns like CatégorieGaffeur (that is French by the way!), then the administrator needs to change the configuration option page_category_regex according to the users' language. In a hebrew wiki, you would use page_category_regex = '^Category[A-Z]|^קטגוריה .+'. See HelpOnConfiguration.
